The University Brass Quintet (UBQ) was formed in 1987 at Cleveland State University and has been playing in the area ever since. Its members have gained extensive experience while performing in many regional orchestras including the Akron Symphony, Canton Symphony, Youngstown Symphony and the Erie Philharmonic.

In addition to their vast orchestral experience, the group has an extensive jazz and show background. They have performed in various jazz ensembles such as the Glenn Miller Orchestra, Guy Lombardo Band, Jimmy Dorsey Band, Cleveland Jazz Orchestra and Ernie Krivda's Fat Tuesday Big Band. Orchestra pit experiences include the Cleveland Ballet Orchestra, Cleveland Opera Orchestra, the Cleveland Playhouse, Cain Park and the Hanna Cabaret.

The University Brass Quintet has a varied repertoire from classical to jazz to show tunes. The UBQ has played in various settings and events: from small private parties to the Cleveland Museum of Art Functions as well as a ship christening at the Port of Cleveland. Weddings, graduations, picnics and parties are all made into extra special events with the addition of the University Brass.
