Peter Hepple of the Stage writes :

“Helen Welch, who came next, is one of the best vocalists I have ever heard in this showcase. I’m a Woman, coupled with Kansas City, gave us a bluesy opening, followed by another classic coupling, this time The Nearness of You and The Very Thought of You, and ending with a striking number called The Wheels of Time, which turned out to be written by Welch and her keyboards player. The spirits are usually inclined to sink when a performer announces one of their own songs. But not on this occasion. This was a quality song by a quality performer whose voice has the tingle factor.”

Ted Higgins of Opus One writes :

“Helen Welch has a rare vocal quality that can move people to tears of sadness or happiness. She has performed at many of the premier venues in the UK and on Breadway. Helen’s versatility as a performer is encapsulated in her dynamic, entertaining and exciting One Woman Show.”

Jim Wadsworth of JWP writes :

Helen Welch is currently featured at Nighttown with her Trio every Saturday. A British transplant, she has turned many an ear since arriving in NE Ohio earlier this year. Helen brings a wealth of experience with her, including tenures as the featured vocalist with the BBC Big Band, Glenn Miller Europe, and The Opus One Big Band and String Orchestra. Helen received formal training in theater and music in London at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama and has appeared in numerous productions including “Guys and Dolls,” “Smokey Joe’s Cafe,” and “42nd Street” among others. Her theater credits include work in Europe and the US. Besides leading her own trio, Helen has already made appearances with the Cleveland Pops Orchestra, and with the Dave Banks Big Band.
